TOCAnet Description

ekey TOCAnet is an advanced physical fingerprint access control system that consists of one or more TOCAnet systems networked together and controlled over a network (LAN/VPN WAN) by client/server computer program. A computer is needed for enrollment, management, startup, and performing certain functions.

The software is used to define in the central database all the access and authorization rights such as who have access to a specific door or group of doors and for specific time period. Based on these definitions each scanner in the network receives its assigned users' fingerprints and their associated access right.

TOCAnet can report various activity information in real-time using CSV file, web server log, or UDP interface. In addition a separate module is available that can integrates with TOCAnet to provide Time and Attendance functionality.

Each system is shipped as a set consists of one access scanner, one control unit, one power adapter, plus LAN converter for homerun wiring from the door to the equipment room.

ekey TOCAnet fingerprint scanners are available in two mounting options as follows:

surface mount - referred to as standard scanner

flush mount - referred to as integra scanner

Also, the scanners are available in three different capacities (Small, Medium, and Large) as follows:

  • Small capacity scanner - 40 fingerprint template
  • Medium capacity scanner - 200 fingerprint template
  • Large capacity scanner - 2000 fingerprint template

TOCAnet Fingerprint Access Scanner

The TOCAnet fingerprint scanner is used for managing fingerprint templates as follows:

  • Storing fingerprint templates received from the server over the network during Startup Operation and Updates;
  • Identifying users' fingerprint during Access Operation;
  • Generating, storing, and sending of activity log to the server.

TOCAnet scanner is available in three capacities 40, 200, or 2000 fingerprint templates with 1-to-many matching algorithm. The scanner can identify users with swipe of their finger without requiring additional criteria such as code, card, FOB, etc.

Each scanner in the network can be configured so that users' identification is performed either locally at the access scanner or centralized at the server.

Each enrolled fingerprint is assigned to a trigger one or series of events such as open door, activate alarm, clock in, activate one or more relays etc.

In a typical installation each TOCAnet scanner is connected to one TOCAnet control unit. Additional scanners can be connected to the same control unit to manage access of the same door in both directions.

All ekey fingerprint scanners are weather resistant for inside or outside use rated for protection class IP43; temperature range -40°C to +85°C; flash non-volatile memory (fingerprints templates are retained during power outage); Thermal line sensor with estimated service life of about 4 million fingerprints captured.

TOCAnet scanners are weather resistant and are available in two designs:

Standard Scanner (surface mount)

  • weather resistant and typically it is powered by the control unit but can be powered directly by 9-12V AC or 9-12V DC with 1.1 W
  • measures approximately W 2 ¼ x H 3 ¾ x D 2 ¼ inches
  • installed at least at 53" height (from lower edge)

TOCAnet Control Unit

The control unit holds and operates relay contact switches and 7 segments LCD for status reporting.

Each relay can be used to manage an electrical circuit for operating an electrical strike, security system, magnetic lock, electrified lock, solenoid, or any electrified system or device that can be controlled by on/off switch.

Each relay can be assigned a descriptive name and activation duration time. A relay is activated once an assigned finger is swiped and identified. The same user can enroll multiple fingers to activate the same or different relays; Activating different relays is achieved by using different fingers, for example:

  • First Finger activates relay #1 to control front door electric strike;
  • Second Finger activates relay#2 to arm / disarm the security System;
  • Third Finger activates relay#3 to set the security System in a panic situation.

The control unit is available in two designs: a) Standard design (surface mount); and integra design (flush)as follows:.

Standard Control Unit

Standard Control Unit

  • Holds the ekey LAN converter that uses static IP address to establish communication between the server and the devices on the RS-485 bus
  • It has 3 dry contacts where has common, normal open/close and is rated up to 250VAC 5A. These relays are used to control external devices that have their own power.
  • It provides power for the fingerprint scanner, it can be power by 9VAC or 12 VDC; in either case the system is polarity blind where positive and negative can be swapped.
  • It should be installed in the equipment room and be protected from tampering. It Measures approximately W 7 ¼ x H 4 ½ x D 1 ¼ inches

integra Control Unit

  • It has two relays each is rated up to 30V 2A;
  • 1st relay is powered and is designed for controlling the door lock;
  • 2nd relay is dry contact and can be used to control external device that has its own power.
  • It provides power to the fingerprint scanner and LAN converter,
  • it can be power by 8-24 VAC where it is polarity blind; or it can be powered by 8-30VDC where polarity is recognized.
  • It is designed to be installed in the side of the door leaf. Measures approximately W ¾ - 1 x H 10 ¾ x D 1 ¼ inches

Software (TOCAnet admin)

TOCAnet is an online access control system that requires computer to run its client/server software. The server software consist of three windows services for managing the database and communication. The client software is windows based with extensive functionality for managing the devices, users, time schedules, calendars, access rights, actions, events, logging, etc.

In case the commutation is interrupted between the scanner and the server, each system will continue to work in standalone mode. Each scanner will log its activities and later forward it when the communication with the server is restored.

Users' fingerprint templates are distributed from the server to each scanner in the network based on the assigned access rights and rules of each user.

Customizable devices can be defined, to recognize customizable events to initiate customizable Actions

During the enrollment process, each enrolled finger is assigned to a trigger one or series of events such as open door, activate alarm, clock in, activate one or more relays etc

Unrecognized fingerprint can be set to activate a particular relay.

Users are enrolled by the administration client program using the USB enrollment scanner (ekey BIT)

The client and server programs can be installed on the same or two different computers connected over LAN or WAN with VPN.

Part Numbers

What Part Numbers to Order?

A typical TOCAnet project is sized by the type and the number of access points, plus the number of fingerprints to control.

An access point is the physical location/system to be controlled by the fingerprint access such as: A door equipped with an electrical strike, magnetic lock, electrified lock, etc; Or a gate or garage door operated by an electrical opener; Or security system configured to armed/disarmed by key-switch.

The type of access point determines whether it requires separate TOCAnet set or not. Typically each door or gate requires separate TOCAnet set while security system does not as it is shared with the door.

The first access point in every project requires TOCAnet Startup Kit Set; and each additional access point in the project requires a TOCAnet Expansion Set.

The number of fingerprints per access point dictates the required scanner capacity. The scanner capacity is determined based on the total number of enrolled fingerprints of the users assigned to the access point. The scanner capacity is either 40, 200, or 2000 fingerprint templates.

Based on the scanner type additional accessories and options might be required. Click on the below links to view these accessories and options in a new window:
